Cédric Mangaud, CEO of Abaxia, interviewed by Journal du Net (french)

Cedric Mangaud (Abaxia):

"The Belarusian engineers stand by their resourcefulness"

What effects have your presence in Belarus on the costs of your delivery of services?
“Our services are not necessarily less expensive because we can have more people work on projects”

“International implies a reduction in costs, but not only. Because we realize 80% of our sales abroad, being able to prove to our customers that we can be present at sites located in different countries is a key element of our marketing approach. This proves that we know how to manage multisite and that we are organized.
But to answer your specific question on costs, we can reduce these two to three times on developments. But there are costs that come to add: the specifications must be more comprehensive, there are more meetings, more internal process, more trips, more telephone expenses ...
Finally, there is a real potential savings but our services are not necessarily less expensive because we can have more people on our projects, and that's what we are doing.“

Belarus, the Eldorado of Embedded Solutions - Cédric Mangaud, CEO, interview by 01Net.com (french)

Cédric Mangaud: «Belarus, the Eldorado of Embedded Solutions »

How many people do you employ in Minsk?

"We started with five people in early 2007, and then tripled the workforce each year. Abaxia is now the largest French computer company in Belarus with approximately sixty people, if we take into account teams of Mobile Tag, a spin-off of Abaxia. Seventy students from two universities in Minsk also collaborate with us. We have made a large classroom full of PCs and mobile available for them. This allows us to identify the best people. In Minsk, we're home in the Hi-Tech Park free zone, with our offices, our employees. Unlike the offshore mode, having a structure enables the creation of a corporate identity"

Cédric Mangaud: "A sleeping idea is a dead idea" (french)

Cédric Mangaud: "A sleeping idea is a dead idea"

What is the impact of the current crisis on your business?

"Like all businesses, we are affected by the economic crisis, but fairly measured.
In a crisis period, companies must learn to control their costs. This is easy for us, as our company has been profitable from the start; we have never rolled in money. We therefore have always paid attention to our expenses.
Above all, we are on a growing market, the smartphones' market. Even if the overall telecom market is decreasing, as customers watch their spending, the smartphone, on the middle/high segment of the market, is relatively unaffected. This allowed us to hire two new employees in recent months. Today we employ 54 people, and half of them are based in France
What advice would you give to an entrepreneur?
I've always been surprised at the number of projects that fail. Many people think of starting a business, nurse a project but are not acting out. However, a sleeping idea is a dead idea! If I may, I would advise those who are thinking about starting a business, not merely think they have a good idea, but to chew it up and make it live."
